Compare the Great Lakes Loons youth trucker cap and the 2026 New Era Armed Forces 59FIFTY cap. Use our decision rules to pick the right fit and style for your kid.
Quick answer
For most kids, the Great Lakes Loons '47 Black Pop Up Trucker Cap is the safer choice because it is youth-sized and adjustable. The 2026 New Era Armed Forces 59FIFTY Cap is a limited-edition, adjustable hat that works for older kids or adults who want a patriotic, on-field look.
Why adjustability matters for growing kids
Kids' heads grow quickly, so an adjustable cap often lasts longer than a fixed-size hat. The youth trucker cap is designed with an adjustable strap and mesh backing, which helps with airflow during hot games. The 59FIFTY cap also has an adjustable fit, but it is not specifically sized for youth, so it may suit older kids or adults better.
Style and occasion: trucker vs. on-field
The trucker cap has a casual, breathable mesh back that works well for everyday wear and summer outings. The Armed Forces 59FIFTY cap has a more structured, on-field look with patriotic styling, making it a good choice for special games or fans who want to show support for service members. Both are officially licensed, but the 59FIFTY is a limited edition for 2026.
Sizing limitations to consider
The youth trucker cap is explicitly labeled as youth sizing, so it is the more straightforward choice for kids. The 59FIFTY cap lists an accessory size option, but without specific youth sizing details, it is harder to guarantee a good fit for younger children. If your child is between sizes, the adjustable youth trucker cap reduces the risk of a poor fit.
Decision rules for choosing a Loons hat for kids
- If your child is under 10: Choose the youth trucker cap. Its youth sizing and adjustable strap are designed for smaller heads, and the mesh back keeps them cool.
- If your child is 10 or older and wants a special-edition hat: Consider the 59FIFTY cap. It has an adjustable fit and a patriotic design, but check the accessory size options to ensure it fits. Older kids may fit the 59FIFTY, but the youth trucker is still the safest bet for adjustable sizing.
- If you need a hat for daily wear and hot weather: Pick the trucker cap. The mesh backing provides ventilation, and the adjustable strap ensures a comfortable fit all day.
- If you want a limited-edition collectible: The 59FIFTY cap is a 2026 limited edition, so it may appeal to fans who value special designs. Just be aware it is not youth-specific.
